Hi implementers,

I'd like to revisit (again) the discussion about tools to make it
easier to translate OpenMRS. We have some promising "inline"
localization tools being developed as part of Google Summer of Code
this year, but in parallel I'm wondering about using a web-based tool
outside of an OpenMRS installation.

Transifex is growing in popularity and is very reliable. I've loaded
the latest translations into the tool. If interested, please take a
look and respond to this thread with your feedback.

Looks nice.

I think you need to create translation teams before we can really test it...

You're right. As best I can see, anyone who creates a free account can
request to join or form a team for a given language by clicking
through to that language on the list. I have started/joined the French
team if anyone wants to help test. :-)

To be clear, can we make arbitrary incorrect translations for testing?

Sure. We just won't commit any updates until we decided whether or not
to use the tool, and reset them.

One big problem: when doing translation it only shows the source message code, but it doesn't show the "main" English message.

To me that seems like a deal-breaker. (E.g. how should I translate the code "OpenMRS - Dictionary" without some more context about what that's supposed mean, and whether it's supposed to include the word OpenMRS or not, etc.

Hmm, maybe we're looking at different parts of the app. When I bring
up a language's file and choose "Translate Now" from the pop-up
dialogue, the resulting web page has a column for English and a column
to enter the foreign-language equivalent. If I click "Download for
translation" a similar thing happens in the .properties file I
download, where the current English equivalents are listed instead of
blank/missing lines (a '_txss' string is appended to the end of those
lines).

Dear Michael,
please add me as translator to the Spanish team of the OpenMRS project.  The overall progress bar is at 53% and I could spend a couple days raising it a bit.  I could also handle es_EC with just minor differences.
Best,
Daniel Hinostroza, MD

Thank you for volunteering! I've just made some adjustments to
Transifex, so it's no longer necessary to request membership to
translate. You should be able to sign up for a free account and begin
right away.

If you have any problems, let me know. Thanks again!

Regards
Michael
