Check the value of your global property named "concepts.locked".  If this is set to true, then adding/editing concepts is disabled.  Set that to false if you want to add new concepts.

Cheers,
Mike

Timothy,

If you're using the Kenya EMR code, it may purposely lock the concepts because it expects you to be running a specific version of the dictionary.

So what you would you propose I do If extra custom concepts to use that are not presently provided for? I am referring to the New Born set concepts and I need to capture extra observations not presently provided for by the CIEL dictionary.

Hi Tuti,

I just wanted to point out that Kenya EMR code makes assumptions about the CIEL dictionary being installed. If you need extra concepts, you don't really have a choice, I guess, but if you're hoping to be able to upgrade to newer versions of the Kenya EMR application, be aware that you'll likely need to update to a newer version of the CIEL dictionary. There's no real support in Kenya EMR for adding your own concepts (yet).

That's ok. I hope that feature will be implemented soon. Also, would you be so kind as to assist me with the issue in the following link?

Its being bugging me the whole morning.

Hi Tuti

We haven't designed the Kenya EMR module as something re-usable for other EMR systems. It's designed to be a complete "EMR" in itself. Each version is fixed to a released version of OpenMRS core, a set of other module versions, and a release of the CIEL dictionary.

If you'd like to use it but add extra functionality then perhaps we can discuss ways of allowing other modules to add their own apps to the Kenya EMR homescreen.

Hi Darius,

That would be great considering that I've already created a simple app that can be displayed on the Kenya EMR homescreen - just as a proof of concept. now trying to test if its possible to create complicated modules that use UI Framework but there is a scarcity of documentation that would be handy in shortening the learning curve.

We are doing regular releases of the CIEL dictionary, so let us know what you are missing!

I was wondering if you could include the following concepts that are relevant to paediatric care:

A CHILD STATUS concept of class:Question, Datatype : Coded

Answers for this concept would have class type:Finding and would include the following concepts:
1. Child In Need of Protection
2. Child With Special Education Needs
3. Child In Need of Continuing Care
4. Child With Disability
5. Child With Homeless/Refugee/Asylum seeker Status

It would be helpful in developing a continuum of care implementation of paediatric care in OpenMRS.

Tuti.

These requests can be made directly to me rather than the list.

Child status was ambiguous. The following concepts were created:

Status of child with special needs (161601):
Child in need of protection (161597)
Child with special education needs (161596)
Child in need of continuing care (161598)
Child with disability (161599)
Child with special legal status (161600)

Should there also be an unknown or not applicable answer?

Andy

Andy, I follow these emails with enthusiasm. Even though I am an adult physician I am sure Paediatricians/Clinicians in child health have a class where the status is "unknown" or "not applicable". I wonder if there are any childhood clinicians who can state whether they have this latter concept class. Terry

I also think both Unknown and Not Applicable concepts should be included.

I guess I wasn't clear. I created a concept Status of child with special needs (161601) instead of just "child status"
That has the answers you requested (plus unknown and not applicable).

It will be in the next release!
