There was a time when Tomcat 6.0.29 was the only pain-free version -- or at least when used with OpenMRS.  Should the installation instructions be updated to reflect the latest reality?

The current wiki documentation (https://wiki.openmrs.org/display/docs/Step+3+-+Install+Tomcat) shows this:

There are issues with versions of Tomcat later than 6.0.29 that have yet to be resolved. Installation through a package manager is not recommended as this will likely install a later version

Thanks for the help,

Hi Ellen,

We have done all of our testing for OpenMRS 1.9 RC’s with Tomcat 7.0.23.  I’m starting a final round of testing of OpenMRS 1.9.0 with Tomcat 7.0.27.  We ran into several problems with Tomcat 7.0.23 in the RC stages of OpenMRS 1.9 (especially with various modules).  To my knowledge everything that we discovered has been fixed.  If the user is using OpenMRS 1.9, I think it would be safe to lift the documented restriction of Tomcat 6.0.29.

Thanks,

James

These are the Tomcat problems I stumbled across and their statuses:

https://tickets.openmrs.org/browse/TRUNK-2272 (affects all Tomcats after 6.0.29 but was fixed in all supported OpenMRS branches)
https://tickets.openmrs.org/browse/RCM-74 (got fixed in 1.5.1.1 release)
https://tickets.openmrs.org/browse/REPORT-311 (problem with Tomcat 7 - being fixed in 0.7.2 release which is coming soon)

RCM-74 and REPORT-311 are the same problem and there is an easy workaround it turns out: http://geekomatic.ch/2011/03/22/1300804080000.html
