hi all, thanks for fielding my questions. it seems that many implementers are designing their screens (user interfaces) from scratch (or from the very beginning). but there are already existing EMR systems that have somewhat perfected the user interface (see attachments from HIV system in Thailand). are there any openMRS instances that already have such advanced interfaces developed? thanks

Deen, I am not sure that "perfected" is the right wording. In fact the screen shown (?from OpenMRS-it does not look like one) below would indicate more information overload in accordance with the "mouse waving principle" written about by Charles Safran. I am in the middle of learning how to build OpenMRS interfaces for physicians having been one of the co-developers of AMPATH (precursor to OpenMRS). A strong feature of the screen summarisation in OpenMRS is the ability to create simplicity of the data/information displays without impeding clinical decision making to any significant degree.
My original work in Johns Hopkins and on the early Eldoret system involved summarisation-screen and paper. In these situation the KISS principle is critical. If you look at the references from the 1980s by Fries and Whiting-O'Keefe on summarisation there is important historical knowledge there.
I hope this feedback helps.

I'm impressed by this new reference application, I had never seen it before. Is this somewhat near completion so implementers can start using/customizing it, or do you think there will still be a lot of movement on this app?

@terry, I do agree that simplicity is important, but of what I've seen of existing OpenMRS implementations, they are too simple. It would nice to be see a history of  prescriptions, vitals, weight/CD4 count, and chief complaints without clicking into each individual visit. But how to do this in a simple way? I do think this app framework is promising.
