Hello all of OpenMRS community,

My name is Jones Mordi and I am from Kaltungo Local Government Area in Nigeria. I am working presently with the Community Action Committee against HIV/AIDS. This became necessary as Kaltungo is the second region that is worst hit with this HIV/AIDS thing. As soon as we kicked off, we saw a surge of clients(HIV+) and now, our pen and paper recording system is becoming unreliable as we have to deal with more and more clients.

In order to find a solution to that I came online and my search led me to ''OpenMRS". I started talking to an angel from this community called Chris Power and he was of great help helping me find this group; and here i am screaming "CAN ANYBODY HERE HELP A COMPLETE COMPUTER ILLITERATE IMPLEMENT THE OPENMRS SOFTWARE SO THAT IT COULD EFFICIENTLY MANAGE HIV/AIDS CLINIC WITH EVER GROWING CLIENTS??'

Please, every and any helpful solution will be appreciated!!

Thank You all.

You definitely need a helping hand. The problem is where to start. Maybe you should engage a local IT person/friend to begin with to explain requirements, feasibility (cost benefit analysis) and etc.

Just a thought.

Nelson

Dear Mordi,

No need to yell and scream, you're among a community of hundreds of
OpenMRS implementers who are interested in helping you be successful.
There are many in Nigeria and West Africa, too.

Since it sounds like you're new to the world of Health IT, I'd
recommend starting by reading our Implementers Guide to give you an
idea of how to plan a project that might include OpenMRS:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/openmrs-guide/ or PDF version at
http://en.flossmanuals.net/_booki/openmrs-guide/openmrs-guide.pdf

Finally, as Nelson mentioned, you'll need to find an implementing
partner if you don't have the technical skills to do it yourself.
There are many around the region, and even at least one in Nigeria
already that I can recall, eHealth Africa - http://ehealthafrica.org/
- they are highly engaged with our technology and community.

Good luck in your journey and do call on our community at any time
(hopefully without screaming!) to help guide you along the way.

Michael, this is a wonderful response to Mordi and is typical of the philosophical approach within the OpenMRS community. With guidance like this you have created the scenario of a parent teaching a child how to walk then run. Terry

Thanks Terry. Literally every day I am in awe of the spirit of cooperation and helpfulness of our community, which would never have happened without people like you to help us get started.

Micheal, thank you very much for your reply. It made me feel relaxed like "I can learn this stuff" 'ehealthafrica'  do not have a phone number on their site. I  have sent them messages(emails) but they did not reply me. I will begin as you have directed me. I just hope you will be here to see me through the learning.
Once again, Thank you very Much and Thank you too Terry

Best Regards,
Mordi Jones
