What "social sites" are we talking about here? Is it just Facebook and Google+ ?

What are the problems with the templates that prevent us from making this configurable?

Currently, the Eldarion work only has +1 and Like against Google+ and
Facebook respectively. But I think Luca's work has a more full set of
'Share this page on site xyz' links, and I think that is valuable too.

Its just always seemed like a pain to merge them in with the existing
layer and map templates, but that seems to be more about how the
templates are organized rather than anything in particular about these
features. Just something to note when we try to pull these into core.
