Yeah there would definitely be some work involved (btw why did you post this on js@ instead of dev@).  Back when we thought it might be a suitable feature for Suite 3.1 I created some tickets - they are all under these two metatickets:

But I don't think they were ever reviewed by a GeoExplorer developer.
