specifying wms image format

hello group

i have several true color landsat images (geotiff) that my geoserver is delivering perfectly as wms, but only when requested as jpeg image format ...requesting png image format delivers no wms and produces an error (and also, for sure is a bad idea to process huge raster files as png images)

looks like geonode has succesfully imported all the rasters from geoserver: they do are in the catalogue, the metadata is correct, the bounding box region is correct, even the preview map is showing nicely ...but when trying to play with the layers in the viewer, no wms is visible at all, but only the base map. Vectorial layers in the same geonode don't have any problem at all

so i'm thinking the problem is that geonode by default is requesting the wms to geoserver only in png format ...would it be possible to specify that geonode requests the true color rasters as jpeg wms? if not, does that mean that each and every raster in geonode must be delivered by geoserver only in png image format?
