Hello Jordaan,

Thank you kindly for your interest in OpendTect capabilities.

Your question is, if a user can upload a KMZ, KML or Shapefile in OpendtTect (Pro)?

The short answer is:
  • kml is export only
  • shape file is import only
  • kmz is sort of a compressed version of kml - this format is not supported in OpendTect

You may find related documentation in various sections of the user documentation: https://doc.opendtect.org/7.0.0/doc/od_userdoc/Default.htm#search-kml

Please feel free to contact me, our support desk, or the user group with any questions you may still have.

Many thanks.

Cheers,
Uwe

Thank you

I have read through the documentation

What I am trying to do is to export a dyke, that I have mapped in either kmz, kml or shp format.

Hi Jordaan,

I see, so it would have to be brought into OpendTect via the shapefile option.  By the way, if you can share the information, would this be for an academic or mining project?  I ask because I am always  interested in what our client"s problems are, so we can formulate the best response for them.  If you do, please reply on my company email and not through the user forum to protect any potenitlally  sensitive information.

Have a nice day and good luck with your project.

Warm regards, Uwe

Hi Uwe

I am attaching one of the Dykes that I have exported via OpenDtetc.

This is (surprisingly)  a gas project that is producing gas and associated Helium  from gold mines in the Witwatersrand.

You can read a lot about it on the internet.
