Hello

Can someone point out which attribute in OpendTect is the same as or equivalent to Seismic Shaded Relief (as described in The Handbook of Poststack Seismic Attribute, Arthur E Barnes) ?

Thanks
Sean Norgard

Hi,

As far as I know opendtect doesn't have the shaded relief attributes in its library, but you can easily implement them, using the attribute engine.

All you need is to compute the dip and dip direction attributes and build the equations present in Barnes' book with the Mathematics attribute, taking those attributes as input, along with the direction and inclination of the lighting.

Kind regards,

Alex.

Hello Sean,

You could try using dip, azimut and play with the LIGHT DIRECTION option... That will produce a shaded relief version.

Saludos

Thanks! These are good ideas, I was hoping for a shortcut to recreating them myself with the attribute engine.

Hi Sean,

Can you please share the equations with me? I'd like to test this attribute myself as it eems like a nice post for Marieke's weekly blog on LinkedIn.

Thanks and best regards,

Paul.

Dear All,

I'm pleased to inform you that shaded relief displays can be made in OpendTect Pro (+ dip--steering license) with the "Apparent Dip" attribute. Apparent Dip is the dip from a (dip-)Steering Cube in a user-defined azimuthal direction. The attribute is available as an option of the Dip attribute. My colleague Marieke van Hout will blog about this attribute in one of her upcoming weekly posts on LinkedIn.

Best regards,

Paul.
