Hello,

I have a question: How can I add a description, e.g., a crossline or inline number, that will be displayed in the seismic section as in the attached image? I searched through all available options, but I didn't find it. In the tree menu there is "Annotations" at the end where you can add an image, but if I use an image as a caption, the description is very distorted because the image is always in the form of a square, not a rectangle, and captions are rather rectangular than in a square.

Hello Waldek,

Have you tried displaying the inline or crossline numbers in a 2D view? The IL/XL number should be visible at the top of the seismic section in that display.

Is this the kind of annotation you're looking for?

Hi.

Just as a related aside, is there a way to display the well track on the 2d viewer? I have searched and couldn't find a way to do so.

Thanks.

Ikenna

Thank you for your question and for reporting the issue. We identified a problem in our code that caused image annotations to always display as a square shape. A fix has been made and will be included in the next public release.

Best regards,
Nanne

Dear Ikenna,

Thank you kindly for your question.

Deviated well paths are still best depicted in 3D viewer.  Options are to digitize a random line down the "spine" of a deviated well bore using View Z with the perspective switched off (please don't forget to save the random line name) . Then, you can either display the random line and toggle to orthorectified view (i.e., perspective is switched off),  or you can view the random line in the 2D viewer.  However, as noted, in this mode the well path does not display.  As a workaround, we suggest to digitize the well path at strategic locations, like geological markers, and then choose this point set to display in the 2D viewer (example attached). Note: display of deviated wells in well correlation panel will be verticalized to permit meaningful correlation.

Best regards,

Uwe

Hello,

Thank you for for information about Annotations -> image

What about the option to add "Text" in "Annotations", which was available in previous versions of Opendtect because I see it in a few Opendtect tutorials and it is in the documentation description. This option is very good because you could add a description using text, defining font size, background colour

https://doc.opendtect.org/7.0.0/doc/od_userdoc/content/opendtect_trees_and_elements/annotations.htm?TocPath=3%2520OpendTect%2520Trees%2520and%2520Elements%257C_____15

I added in the attachment the "Annotations" menu from Opendtect v7.0.8 and a screenshot from the Opendtect tutorial where "Text" is available in the "Annotations" menu

Best regards

Thanks for the answer but I would like to place the XL and IL number on the 3D preview as described in the documentation https://doc.opendtect.org/7.0.0/doc/od_userdoc/Default.htm#opendtect_trees_and_elements/annotations.htm?Highlight=annotations Text contains two pop-up menus: Add Text Group: Adds a blank text group Load: It is used to load the stored annotation group(s). The text group pop-up menu can be launched by right clicking on the text group name. but in version v7.0.8 an Linux I do not see this option in the menu (see the attached image) so the question is whether adding Annotation with TEXT is not available for the LINUX version or something needs to be configured?

Hello,

I see what you mean now. Unfortunately this part of the documentation hasn't been updated. We had text annotations in an earlier version of the software, but after switching visualization libraries we had to remove that functionality.
I agree it's a nice and useful feature and it's definitely on our wishlist to bring it back. However, I'm afraid I can't make any promises about when that will happen.

Best regards,
Nanne

Hello,

Thank you for the explanation, and now I know that the lack of "TEXT" was not due to my Opendtect settings

Best regards

Waldek

Good morning, Ikenna,

Perhaps I misunderstand the requested feature, but you can already create a random line along the deviated well path. For this, go to Random line>New>From Wells.

Please make sure you set ‘Use only wells top position' to "No''.

Thank you for your question.

Cheers,
Uwe
