Hello,

Can you please advise how to visualise well data, including well track and formation tops on 2D viewer, using a free version of Opendtech. Does this need a pro licence?

Also, how can I import a bathymetry, side scan or any other image for example in opendtech as you would do with Kingdom suite

Many thanks

Posting wells on seismic is only possible with Well Correlation Panel license. It will be very useful if OpenDtect will introduce this option for the 2D Viewer in the next versions.

Thanks Mihai.

I don't recommend doing the following but I am sharing this workaround just in case someone really needs it. To create the attached image (Gamma ray log in wiggles overlaying seismic displayed in the 2D viewer) I executed the following steps:
  1. Created a log cube (right-click on the well)
  2. Created an attribute set with:
    1. One attribute that zeroed all values (Math attribute)
    2. One attribute that outputs the log cube values in the range where the log cube exists and sets undef values at all other trace locations (Position and Math attributes)
  3. Created a seismic line with only zeros (Process seismic)
  4. Merged the line with zeros with the log cube using the stack option (Seismic manager).
It's easier to buy the Well Correlation Panel😉.

Best regards,

Paul.

PS. I forgot to answer your 2nd question: In OpendTect you can add two images to the 3D scene. Both images can be positioned at any Z position. The images must match the survey setup definition and can be added to the scene by right-clicking on the Scene entry in the tree.

I was looking for the same functionality and ran across this old post. I agree that it would be easier to lease WCP but I find it shocking that the display of wells on the 2D Viewer is not included as the functionality which is included on the inline and xline views. This should be a basic functionality even if only on the Pro version. The viewer is just that, a viewer, but finds good value when looking at and plotting zigzagging lines intersecting wells.

If you want to charge more for this basic functionality, yes, it is included in the WCP but then allow labelling markers and or horizons in WCP. I consider this is another oversight of a basic functionality used in interpretation, and presentation of interpretation not a frill.
