Gents,

We have 3 small areas of 3D seismic data that look like picture below
Area.jpg

If I set up the project for each single area (let's say area A, B, & C; small rectangles) using the "Scan SEG-Y File" option the data is loaded no problem.

Then we tried to merge these 3 areas into 1 project, I set up a survey box (blue rectangle), import the data with the "Use (X, Y)" option, it looks okay
2023-10-03 06_09_14-OpendTect V6.6.10 (Windows) _ MPA Tuas Finger 4 - [Scene 1].png

But when loaded, opendtect says that there is no relevant data.
2023-10-03 06_12_41-OpendTect V6.6.10 (Windows) _ MPA Tuas Finger 4 - [Scene 1].png

I also checked the Inl/Crl bin size is the same in all projects, 2/2 m/line.

As I recall we never had this problem in previous version, ie v6.2.

Do you have any suggestions on how to merge multiple surveys into 1 project?

Thank you and regards,

Yosua Erwin Sitanggang

Hi Yousa,

Using the wildcard option, you could perhaps try using all three SEG-y files to set up the initial project and then follow the prompts to set the coordinate reference system and then, once you have the survey set up and selected, you will be asked if you want to import these three SEG-Ys directly in that same survey.

Please let us know if this works for you.

Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried to use wildcard option, the system can detect there are 3 files
2023-10-03 20_06_02-Extract Survey Setup from SEG-Y.png

But the resulting survey setup still takes the first file only, and once imported only this first file can be imported properly.

Hi Yosua,

I think Mark's suggestion with wildcards only works for 2D seismic.

In this case (3D volumes), I would load the 3 cubes into 3 separate surveys. Next, you use the "Import from other Survey" option to import the 2nd and 3rd cube into the first project. Note that the 2nd and 3rd cube will be transformed into the grid defined in the 1st project. This transformation is done through a sinc interpolation, or by taking the nearest trace.

Best regards,

Paul.

Hi Yosua,
Your inline/xline byte locations are not correct, check the header and make the change accordingly.

Hi Paul,

I assume what you meant is Survey > Import > Seismic Data > CBVS > From Other Survey?

I tried:
1. Open 1st survey and import 2nd and 3rd cube
When I select the 2nd cube, opendtect gives error message that no coordinates matching the current survey
2023-10-04 05_24_17-OpendTect V7.0.2 (Windows) _ MPA Tuas Finger 4 - Zone A - [Scene 1].png

2. Make new project with larger survey box that covers all three zones, and import all three cubes
It accepts the cubes coordinates
2023-10-04 05_32_55-OpendTect V7.0.2 (Windows) _ MPA Tuas Finger 4 - [Scene 1].png
2023-10-04 05_33_54-OpendTect V7.0.2 (Windows) _ MPA Tuas Finger 4 - [Scene 1].png

But when I check the imported cube details from Manage > 3D Seismic Data, the information seems not correct.
Picture1.png

So they also couldn't be loaded.

And for Hesham feedback, for some reasons our data processing put the inline/xline location in that byte. So I used that setting to set up and import each cube into an individual project, and it worked properly.

As I mentioned above, we have similar surveys (multiple adjacent areas) in 2017 & 2019 with older versions of opendtect (if I remember correctly version 4 and 5), and it worked fine.

Is it possible to send you my opendtect projects in zip files, so you may check more properly?

Thank you and regards,
Yosua Erwin Sitanggang

Hi Yousa,

Yes, please do send it in and we will do our best to try and help you with this.

It's probably best if you send in the 3 original SEG-Y files...  plus the survey setup file from the 'blue rectangle' survey that you made to cover the entire area.

Please reply to me at sup...@dgbes.com and we can arrange it further via that channel.

Kind regards,
Mark
