Hi,
I am using a relatively large dataset (15GB segy) and the interface is chocking and is almost unresponsive. CPU is 100% with hundreds of threads. MacOS Intel.
I tried restarting, but each time I load horizons, polygons or display seismic it is super slow to respond ... I had CPU issues in the past with 3d picking on MAC Intel ...

Any thoughts ?

Hi Vincent,

The go-to in cases such as this is to use the copy-cube function to 'decimate' your volume.
Setting the step to 2,2 will decrease the data to 25% of its current size.
If that isn't useful, please let us know.

As regards Mac in general....
OpendTect 2026 is scheduled to be released in the coming months.
However, dGB will no longer support the macOS platform.
There will be a public announcement on this topic along with the forthcoming 2026 release but please consider this advance notice.
There simply isn't enough commercial demand to justify the resources required to maintain a Mac version of OpendTect.

Kind regards,
Mark

Bummer. I guess I can continue using the latest supported mac version.

Do you have client running OD on a Virtual Machine successfully ?

On the mac version, what I see strange is that the opendtect process always is at 100% CPU even when it does nothing unless I minimize the window.
Is there a parameters to tweak to prevent that ?

Thank you.

BTW Mark,
Seismic is fine, it is polygons and horizons with millions of points that create a responsiveness issue ... and for some reason well logs.

Hi Vincent,

Many clients run OD on VMs; as long as the System Requirements are met, it's all okay.

We are aware of responsiveness issues with large numbers of points, but I believe the Well Logs display has been greatly improved on Win & Lux in recent versions.

I've been asked to stress the following, as it might seem like we just 'gave up' on Mac... we didn't...

Actually, Apple makes it increasingly difficult for us to maintain the OpendTect version for Mac.
Even without a commercial user-base, we'd be happy to keep it for our community and academic users.
But Apple has changed the architecture, and dropped OpenGL support. A crucial building block we relied upon.
Because of these changes we can't develop and deliver a Mac version that meets the performance, stability, and functionality standards we set for OpendTect.

I hope you can find a good VM setup and understand the issue regarding Mac support.
Get back to us if you need anything else.

Kind regards,
Mark
