For a project completed with the new OpendTect automatic fault extraction tool I need to export from OpendTect into SMT Kingdom a large amount of fault surfaces.

Considering the amount of fault surfaces generated, I prefer a bulk export  and import mode - that is all faults would be stored in a single file and be brought into SMT with a 'single file read and load' to minimize the button pushing. On the OpendTect side I have a files with all data stored column wise in ascii format (fault name index node coordinates twt), and using some scripting it is easy to convert this to other formats.

There are several file formats that seem suitable for this (iesx, charisma, landmark), but the import on the SMT side seems to go wrong b/c of small differences between my scripted export format and SMT's required import format, possible due to my understanding of the file formats being incomplete/errorneous.

Would there be people in this group who have a _precise_ description of file formats SMT accepts for multi fault import?

Thanks!

Yes

...

I assume you like to know more, but I don't know what you are asking. I ended up writing a csh script using awk inside converting the OpendTect data to IESX format. The problem is not so much the scripting, but understanding the exact requirements that the receiving software demands, as format descriptions are vague and incomplete and the actual requirements may vary again with the software that you want to import into, it requires some reverse engineering using trial and error.

If your software accepts IESX I can provide you with a format example and the scripts. Though I would probably recode it now in Python.

Friso,
Did you ever have any luck exporting Faults into other software?
