Hi all,

Does anyone have a tool to either remove or interpolate duplicate XY positions at more than one trace?  I have a sub-bottom profiler dataset that I am trying to interpret using OpendTect and have converted coordinates from geographic to UTM (in a local tool) to import into OpendTect, but some of the coordinates are the same for different traces.  I think this is to do with the conversion from lat-long to UTM not preserving enough significant figures but I cannot get our local tool to do any better.

So, does anyone have an idea how to deal with these duplicate geometries?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend another tool in which I could convert lat-longs (arcseconds) to UTM coordinates in the trace headers whilst preserving decimal places?

Many thanks!

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

There is an option in "Manage 2D seismic" to merge seismic lines. The option supports stacking traces with the same X,Y position or passing only the trace from the first file. The UI of this option allows you to use the same line twice but I am not sure if this would work. If it doesn't than copy the line first.

I hope this solves your problem.

Best regards,

Paul.

Kelly,

You can use the 'sample1d' function in GMT, in conjunction with UNIX 'sort' command, to interpolate unique nav fixes for each trace.  I can provide a script if needed.

Hi Kelly,

You mention you are looking for a tool to make coordinate conversions. If your data is in SEG-Y format, you might want to check out a small utility I wrote in Python:

Hope this helps.
