Thanks for all the comments.
I discovered that it was the NVIDIA driver that was needed to eliminate the previous error, so I successfully installed it, but I still cannot complete the installation. It gives the following:

I hope anyone can shed more light on how to successfully install Opendtect.

I think you need to set some environmental variables before installing no? The remote installation works fine maybe check the instructions again for variables

Are you running the OpendTect installer with sudo command?
Please note that you should not need to install OpendTect as a root user. If you ran the installer with sudo before then my advice is to try without sudo.
As a normal Linux user you should be able to install into a directory of which you have sufficient permissions. E.g. into $HOME/OpendTect
What might also help you is the contents of the log file that the installer writes into the /tmp directory. The logfiles start with the Linux username:
/tmp/username_od_instmgr_install_log.txt
/tmp/username_od_instmgr_updcheck_log.txt
/tmp/username_od_instmgr_install_log.txt
/tmp/username_od_instmgr_updcheck_log.txt
When you start the installer you see the installation Manager GUI with options: Install/Update Online and Prepare offline installation packages.
The default choice Install/Update Online is the preferred way to Install and update OpendTect.

Thank you for your advice.
- I ran the installation without sudo
- I tried installing numerous times with no success
- Attached is the /tmp log file. I really hope you can spot what the problem is. It seems that everything went OK. But I don't see any way to start Opendtect.

- It seems that installation went OK but I get no response after that. Would appreciate any suggestions.
- I tried installing only the free option. This log file for when I tried the full option. Both results end up the same.
- I also tried with and without Python installation.
- I even tried the old version of 6.4 without any success.
