Good morning all.

When I try to save a session file, I get the error message below, and the application crashes. I'm using an older version of OpendTect, specifically v 6.4, so I suppose it's about time to get current.  I don't remember the specifics, but when I upgraded to a later version a year or so ago I had some trouble with old projects, so I decided to stay with the version I was using..

So, two questions:
 - Any thoughts on why I can't save a session without a crash?
 - Any reason for the casual user not to upgrade to the latest version?  Problems with old versions?  Sessions?

Thanks for the help.

A little more on this:

When I try to restore the session that I had earlier tried to save, which action resulted in crashing the software, I get this message:

I should have asked the obvious question ???   Can’t you save any OpendTect session??

Looks like a return to the OpendTect version 3 or 4 days.   I would suggest upgrading.   I use the free version.  The software has even some new utilities in the freebie.   As a work around I would turn off different displayed items and experiment to see if that fixes the issue.    You might have access something outside of your OpendTect work directory the software can’t find or reach.   I would also suggest taking a picture with the utility PowerPoint slide creator.

I updated to the version 7.0.4 and all is well.  I've successfully saved and restored a session and it looks like everything I had is still available to me.

Thanks for the help.

Dear Brian, dear All,

Sessions in OpendTect are just a convenience to get back to the same display position you were in when you stored the session. Saving a session is NOT saving your project as is the case in some other software systems. If a session does not restore properly (maybe you deleted some files, or the session was saved with a corrupt attribute set, or something else changed since you stored it), simply delete it and rebuild your session from scratch.

Obviously OpendTect should not crash when you restore a corrupt session but for the rest there is nothing to worry about.

Best regards,

Paul.
