Another question for my convenience.

In Windows 10 I had several stand alone SEG-Y viewers where I could just open and examine a 2D line, and in one case, a 3D volume, just to see what the file contained.

I have not found any such programs for Linux/Unix. I must be missing something. Are there any suggestions?

Hi Bill,

You can use OpendTect's SEG-Y viewer for that. In your file browser, right-click on a SEG-Y file and select 'Open With' and 'Other Application'. There select the application 'od_SEGYExaminer'. You can find this application in the OpendTect installation. For instance:
/apps/OpendTect/6.6.0/bin/lux64/Release/od_SEGYExaminer

This is a screenshot from KDE's Dolphin file manager to illustrate the steps:

You can associate our SEG-Y examiner with the sgy file extension. After doing this you can simply double-click on the file to open the viewer.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Nanne

Please ignore my last – I was looking at the wrong item.  SeiSee appears to be Windows-only.  Apologies to all.

Greetings, Bill.
I’m running Mint 20 and the windows program SeiSee runs well under Wine. Of course, the segy viewer in OD is preferred but SeiSee gives you some options.

Also I’ve found running Win10 in a Virtual Machine also works quite well if you have a spare license you can use. I run VirtualBox and am quite happy with it.

Cheers!

Hello friends, good afternoon.

There is a free SEGY and SEGD viewer for Linux. You can find it in: https://seismigraphix.com/
