OpendTect 6.2 pre-release

Dear fellow developers,

We have made a pre-release of our next stable version OpendTect 6.2 for the developers. This release is currently available for Linux 64-bit and Windows (both 64-bit and 32-bit). The release for Mac OS  will follow shortly.

To install it, you will have to use the OpendTect Installer from the Utilities menu or downloaded from the website. Select Release type 'OpendTect 6.2 (development)' from the drop down menu in the Installer main window.

The API for v6.2 has been kept almost identical to that in v6.0 (with rare exceptions). With today's pre-release we have frozen the ABI which essentially means that the plugins built against this release will be binary compatible with all future 6.2 releases.

Are the build requirements (ie OS version and compiler versions) the same as 6.0.0? I'm getting an error message "ELF file OS ABI invalid" when I try and start the pre release on Centos 5.10

Dear Wayne,

We are using CentOS 6.0 (Final) to build OpendTect 6.2 on Linux. Therefore it may not work on CentOS 5 anymore. I should have mentioned this earlier.

For compiler and dependency versions, you can refer to the 'About' window under the Help menu. For instance, on Linux, it says:

Based on Qt 4.8.7, OSG 3.4.0, GCC 4.4.4

OK - I'll build a VM with Centos 6 and see how it goes.

What about on Windows - should we still be using the same version of Visual Studio as 6.0.0?

Hi Wayne,

Yes, we are using the same Visual Studio version as in 6.0, that is Visual Studio 2013 - MSVC 12.0, also seen in the attached screen-shot of the About window.
