I'm having trouble exporting reflectors picked as 2D lines on a 2D seismic section in depth.  The export 2D ASCII horizon option seems to only export time horizons.  It seems I can only make depth horizons by creating a 3D horizon from the 2D horizons and doing a depth transform in the 3D horizon export option.  I would rather just have depth values form the reflectors along the seismic section.

Dear John,

I've tried to replicate this in a "depth" survey but in this survey, I can export 2D horizons without any problems.

Here is some background info as to how OpendTect manages time and depth:
  1. The Z domain (Time or Depth) is specified in the Survey setup window.
  2. All objects in a project are stored in the specified Z domain.
  3. When you add a Depth scene to a Time survey, OpendTect converts the data on-the-fly with the specified Velocity transformation. In this scene you can view most data objects but interpretation options are limited. For example, you can view horizons in depth but you cannot track new horizons in the Depth scene. To do that, you should create a new survey in Depth, export the seismic data in depth from the Time survey and import it into the Depth survey. This is rather cumbersome. If the only objective is to convert horizons (2D or 3D) from Time to Depth, it is easier to use "Horizon Mathematics", which is supported in OpendTect Pro.
  4. When you export a 3D horizon, you have the option to transform the Z domain on-the-fly with the specified Velocity transformation. This option is missing in the export window of 2D horizons but can be added easily. I will add this feature to our wish list.
Best regards,

Paul.

Thank you.  This helps a lot.  I'm new to the group but have been an OpendTect user for years.  I don't have connections to other users which kind of made me feel like I'm on my own at times. This forum is a great service and I appreciate being part of it.
