Good afternoon,

I'm currently working on a personal project that is attempting to leverage data from the DAYMET Thredds data servers. I've attempted to pull the data I was after through two methods:
  1. Through the pyDAYMET library, which connects via API to the server where the DAYMET data is stored.
  2. Through the direct link on the "Get Data" webpage under the "Direct Download" "Daymet THREDDS Data Server" link
Initially, I thought the library I was pulling was out of date, but upon checking the link to the data server, I was met with the same webpage, which referenced me to your email address (Please see attached image).

I was curious if I was going about getting this data wrong, or if the server is currently down for maintenance. If it is currently down, I would be interested in knowing when it will be back online for public use.

Lastly, if I have made any mistakes in going about getting the DAYMET information, please let me know how I can adjust course to grab what I'm looking for!

  • Link to the Daymet website I was attempting to access: here
Thank you very much for your time,

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for reaching out. I think what you are experiencing is a side effect of NASA's migration to host data on the cloud. As a result, the URLs are no longer the same as before, and unfortunately there is no redirect to the updated resources. This means that you will have to query the URLs associated with the data collection (i.e. Daymet) and variables of your interest.

To help our user base, we have this online documentation on how to find OPeNDAP URLs from NASA's Earthdata in the cloud. You can check this resource here:

Overall, you will need to know the "Concept collection Id" or "DOI" associated with DAYMET (There are various version, for example for daily data and for monthly data). In the documentation in the link above, we also motivate users to use PyDAP to query N OPeNDAP URLs by providing at a minimum the Concept Collection Id, or ID. The resource shared above has an example and a link to furthermore examples.

Hope this resource helps, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.

Best,
Miguel Jimenez-Urias
