Unable to edit unpublished videos

Hi, after retracting videos we can't edit them. My question is, does this particular issue have to do with workflows? Is there any way for us to edit the workflows to allow editing unpublished videos?

Hi Cavin,

Yes, if your retract workflow retains the source files in the archive. You can create a workflow to use the source files as input to tag for trim.

Also, if your local Opencast version comes with the "Duplicate Event" workflow, you can apply this to your retracted event, right now with the Actions start dropdown. This will create a cloned event that it sends to an unpubished trim state that you can choose to trim and publish.

Hi Cavin,

Ignore my comment on the “Duplicate Event” workflow. I just tried the workflow on stable.opencast.org and the sequence of inputs and outputs (*/source to */work to */delivery) did not flow correctly with the default archived source media.

Hi Cavin

In the standard configuration, you can run the workflow "Update previews"  (Events->Events->Actions->"Start Task") on the events you have unpublished to generate the video files required by the video editor.

When retracting an published event be sure to not check the checkbox "Preview and editing media" - those are the files required by the video editor. If you don't retract them, you can use the video editor on unpublished events.

Hi Cavin,

I think I stumbled over this problem before, if I remember correctly, the retract-workflow also retracts the internal publication, which means the video editor can't view the event.

I don't think there's currently an easy way to recreate that with the standard workflows, or is there?
