Subtitle display in Paella Player

Hi community,

recently we enabled speech to text in Opencast and now I am wondering which flavor you are using for output.

Currently we're using captions/vtt+de which displays as "de" in Paella Player.

1. Is it possible to get a verbal representation of the ISO language code, something like "Deutsch" or "German"

2. Can I somehow mark automatically created captions so they show up as "Deutsch (autmatisch)" or "German (automatic)" giving an indication that they have been machine-generated without entirely messing up any standards?

Hi Felix,

It is not supported actually in the opencast loader. You can modify the loader and add that feature. You will need to get the label to show from somewhere, maybe the tags of the attachment? Add +label to the flavor?

Hi Miguel,

thanks for your suggestions which I thought about:

• Love to see a recommendation/default getting built-in to Opencast soon, so that not every institution starts to have a different nomenclature/standard for expressing the language and if it's an automatically generated asset or not.
• Prefer ISO language codes allowing translation of the langues to multiple other languages.
  
• Prefer a separate flag (i.e. tag) for machine-generated captions because this information is distinct from the language.
  

Our machine-generated subtitles currently get the captions/vtt+langcode flavor and an "stt" tag. I am going to modify the script you suggested to properly represent that in Paella. Do you see any benefits in submitting that as a PR to Opencast?

Tags are ok to me!

Paella can get the lang code from the flavor (captions/vtt+<langcode>) or from tags (lang:<langcode>)

to read the tags for something like "label:<label_text>"
