Changing server URL

I've been running opencast only accessible on the local network with a local hostname for some time now.

I want to make it accessible externally.

So I changed the server.url in the custom.properties file, and set up Nginx with SSL, etc.

It works fine, I can access the admin GUI, login, etc.

But then I realized I need to update the URL on all the videos, as the media engage-player publication assets contain the old hostname. And when I create a new event, it fails.

I'm kind of stuck here, can't seem to find any answers. Anyone have any guide on how to accomplish this? Thanks

Hi,

in order to update your media package URLs, this guide explaining how to migrate from HTTP to HTTPS might be helpful to get an idea where to look at. I haven't tested that for a while.

Attempting to update the URLs, you can also just reprocess all of your events.

About the event creation failure: Can you attach your Opencast logs from between when you start creating the event until you see the error in UI? My guess is that the ingest service is not available, which would be easily spottable in the Admin UI: There should be an indication (red badge) at the bell that can be clicked and lists current issues.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes of course I should have attached the logs. But I've learned before tinkering with stuff that its best to take a snapshot. So after a few hours of struggling today I threw the towel in and reverted to the snapshot. Then I realized I forgot to grab the logs. I will re-create the issue and circle back with the logs as soon as I have time. Off hand is there any reason that a working opencast instance should fail to process new events after simply changing the server.url in the custom.properties file? Thanks
