Hello everyone!

For the last months here at Teltek we were working in a new project to add support for the NDI [1] standard (AV over IP) to Galicaster [2] thanks to a new GStreamer plugin. We worked in collaboration with the University of the Arts London and The University of Manchester and are pleased to announce that our first release it's available now [3].

The NDI plugin is written in Rust [4] and has two source elements, ndivideosrc to get video from the stream and ndiaudiosrc for audio. By just providing the name or the ip of the stream, all the information required from the stream is picked up automatically, such as resolution, framerate, audio channels,...

The last release of Galicaster is fully adapted to take advantage of this new plugin and record from NDI sources.

Feel free to try it. All feedback is welcomed!

Hi,

i'm digging out this old posting because all of our installed equipment is capable of delivering NDI|HX streams.

So i have some questions:
  1. Did someone try this out, hopefully with success?
  2. Is there any comprehensive documentation on this? How do i enable and configure it? We have some Galicaster Pro units with Galicaster 2.4.0.
  3. Does it support NDI|HX or only NDI streams?
The last question comes up because, as far as i know, all of our equipment supports NDI|HX. We have several Panasonic PTZ cameras and HDMI to NDI converter (i think it should be NewTek Connect Spark or BirdDogs).
I also played a bit with ffmpeg (4.1) and the NDI SDK. I was not able to receive streams from any of our installed NDI equipment. But i could receive NDI streams from my local machine. I think this is the difference between NDI and NDI|HX, but maybe i'm wrong. What i tried was to build a pyCa agent with NDI inputs.

Best regards
Sven

Hi,

You'll get better expertise from the galicaster mailing list. I do seem to remember that someone rewrote the initial NDI gstreamer plugin so there should be some improvements over the initial release. We did test it and have it working, but as the powers that be decided not to go ahead with installing an NDI solution we have not pursued it further.
