Hope you read the Listserv messages posted so far in 2026! I certainly have enjoyed reading them! Remember: communicate and collaborate!!
1. Practice Pearls:
- Received some great comments from Omaha System users, but want several more before I post a message with a group of Pearls! Are YOU ready to submit?! IF so send an email to me directly, and we’ll collaborate. Am watching for your responses!
- On March 30, I asked for 3-5 sentences from you in diverse practice settings to describe an activity/idea/change that you started or continue that makes use of the Omaha System more consistent and accurate, shows evidence of practice quality, improves outcomes of care, provides better data for grants/reports/staff feedback, OR is useful in some other way.
2. Publications: I know it takes time to read publications, but I find something of value every time I read. Increasingly, Omaha System is listed in publication titles and/or key words!
- In April, Robin Austin posted an “exciting” list of publications that are also on References (https://www.omahasystem.org/references). These citations demonstrate the extensive Omaha System accomplishments of her, her University of Minnesota colleagues, and global collaborators. Three of the 5 citations are “open access”; that means you can click on the link for these and other citations listed in References and read the article without subscribing to a journal or paying for it. In addition, her list includes a publication from authors in Brazil: a first for References!!
- Max Topaz and his Listserv co-authors published a “frightening” article recently about the increasing effects of AI. It is open access so please read it and be watchful for “fake” references when you write and read. The citation is “Topaz M, Roguin N, Gupta P, Zhang Z, Pelonen L-M. (2026, May 9). Fabricated citations: An audit across 2.5 million biomedical papers. Lancet, 407, 1779-1781. Available: https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(26)00603-3.”
- Lisa Gorski, Editor-in-Chief of Home Healthcare Now posted a call for submissions on May 27. Lisa is a long-term Omaha System supporter who has worked in practice settings throughout her career AND is a super person! She heard from you, but would like even more responses! Consider her diverse options for publication and communicate with her at lisago...@gmail.com. You would be fortunate to work with her!
3. Photo Gallery:
- Have you checked the Website and Photo Gallery lately?! The new 2026 photos (https://www.omahasystem.org/photogallery) are great! Note photos from HIMSS; La Vista, Nebraska; and Omaha Visiting Nurse Association—where the Omaha System began!!!
- Photos are newly posted from the Omaha System Japan Meeting, September, 2016. They were “lost” and now “found”!
- If YOU schedule a face-to-face meeting at your agency, attend a conference that involves the Omaha System, or teach a class that includes the Omaha System, consider sending an email to me to discuss posting your photos!
Please enjoy!!
