Best time of day for OAV?

What is the best time of day to do oxalic acid vapor treatment? 

 

I started at 8am today. By 9:30am, I was on hive 5 and there were a lot of bees wanting to get back in the hive. 

 

Maybe night-time is best? Or 6AM?

 

Good news is that the bees are still bringing in quite a bit of pollen - I'd say 5 to 10% of the returning bees were "packing".

 

My down-the-street neighbor told me his pumpkin patch is filled up with honeybees. He has 120 pumpkin plants!

I would say early morning or later evening. Not in the heat of the day when the bees are flying.

OAV is best done either at night when they’re all home or very early morning before they’re flying. That will be most effective to reduce the mite population. I chose to do it at night, since they are flying super early this time of year.
