As someone who has been involved in trying to get sewers for probably 30 years , I have a comment about the somewhat revisionist history of pollution at our beach . As one of us who supported the original study , although we did want sewers because of the small size of our lot at 54 Billow Rd , we also wanted to know if there was pervasive pollution.
We found out that indeed there was. Septic tanks were leaking all over the beach . Because of the smallish lots, this situation was only going to get worse. Asking for the study was not a shady plot , but an attempt to be environmentally safe. Anyone who doubts that human waste is not seeping up through their yards should take a look at the original study which was done with actual scientific testing. No one is happy with what has turned out to be cost of this project, but it seems to me to be imperative for the health of our little bit of ocean. I would also encourage people to not let their children put their hands in the water that comes out of the big pipes on the sand after a rainstorm.
Thank you for your time,
Ellen Cleary Dube
