Good morning OBRA Friends,

I find great value in the OBRA Chat forum. It is a place for race promoters to disseminate information about their events, a place to post race reports and provide links to photos and a marketplace so used bikes and equipment can find new homes. OBRA Chat is also a place where our community can ask important questions about our values as an organization. Unfortunately, some of these discussions degrade into name-calling, bullying and basically disrespectful conversations where people can hide behind a screen and keyboard and spew hateful things. Since my hiring in March of 2018, there have been 4-5 such threads. The most recent posting from a person or people hiding behind the name "Civilized Revolution" was most disturbing and forced us to turn on the moderate function in the group. This has caused some delay in posts showing up but it is the only way we can keep the hateful dialog off the forum for now. Very soon OBRA Chat will be moving to a OBRA member only group. If you currently participate in this forum and are not a member, you will no longer have access. This action allows us to have the names and other membership information of anyone posting. We are still working out the nuts and bolts of making this work for everyone as we move into 2020 and people will be renewing their memberships. Please stay tuned form more information on this.

Definitely better late than never. 

I’d just want to hope the verification process is going to be throughout  and accurate. 

One step verification will not stop bad actors with technical skills and willingness to harass and terrorize our already vulnerable members. I get this is not personal banking but we can’t allow our public forum to be used by anonymous bad apples.

Marek: perhaps, but let’s also not fall into the trap of doing *nothing* if we can’t come up with something perfect. 

I definitely support having all posting rights be tied to a paid OBRA membership. This is a good move.
