I see that we have just 3 (three!) days of Tuesday road racing at PIR on the calendar this year. The calendar entries don't link to any event info and the old website that Tony used to run at tuesdaynightpir.com seems to have gone the way of the dodo. Is that really it for our PIR road fun this year? 7 Mondays and maybe a couple Tuesdays if it pans out?

I remember hearing something months ago about the city cutting back on our access to the track, but yikes! What a loss.

I can't tell if this is asking an actual question or just a statement of general concern. Once I get the format nailed down (considering changes that require input from the officiating staff) I'll publish a flyer, reach out if there is anything you'd like to know before that.
Yours,
Tony

Copy that. I'm right there with you in lament. Details to follow, I took the site down as it wasn't really relevant considering only 3 consecutive dates were available that didn't interfere with motorized use of PIR or the Tabor series. -Tony

Bit of a combined question/lament I guess. The lack of a website or
flyer, and much shorter than usual schedule on the calendar, made me
wonder if it was happening at all. Sounds like it is, which is
exciting! Can you confirm yet if there will be more than three dates?

I would like to ask a question: Will Tuesday PIR happen, and if so, on which dates?

Adam,

Look at the OBRA schedule it has the dates on it.  https://obra.org/schedule

Folks I am going to chime in here and give you my 2 cents worth.  For starters if you think you are disappointed about there only being 3 Tuesday Night PIR's trust me no one is more bummed than Tony.  Tony has been working his butt off to get as many Tuesdays at the track as possible.  He is passionate about this series.  Unfortunately he is running into a City of Portland Parks and specifically the track management that would rather sell these dates to a car clubs that will pay them a ton more money to use it for a night than 150 racers at $20 a head.  I know Tony and I know him well.  The guy is incredibly selfless and hard working and makes next to nothing off this series due to substantial cost increases he has incurred with putting the event on.  The track is now charging substantially large fee to rent this venue this year.

Here is how all of you who race the road can help Tuesday night PIR this year.

#1  Show up - Numbers have continued to decline.  Show up and bring 3 friends.  The more riders the more likely there will be future dates.
#2  Volunteer - Post COVID volunteerism is fast becoming extinct.  Reach out and see what you can do to help.
#3  Donate - Yes actually pay more than the registration fee and help Tony and his crew out.  You are likely riding an $8000 road bike so a $20 entry fee is pennies in comparison.  Kick in a few more bucks and help out!

This applies to not only Tony's event but also Monday Night PIR, Baker City, and any other road events out there.  It is more important now more than ever to support before it is gone.

I would like to second what Chad said. I think PIR is the clue that has been holding road racing together for a long time. I’ve been riding PIR since 1981. I’m pretty sure if it hadn’t been for PIR and the Velodrome I would’ve quit bike racing long time ago. The Velodrome is gone now. The management at PIR has been ratcheting up the fees for many years. At one point PIR was a money generator, but that is no longer the case, like much of bike, racing promotion. Make sure you register for this race even if the weather report looks like it’s going to be crappy and you don’t actually end up going. More participation will make it less likely we lose this venue like we did the Velodrome.

Reviving this thread since we are 2 weeks away from the first date on the OBRA calendar. Any hope that we will actually race on a few Tuesdays this year?

Hi!
I just received lap time data last night to calculate some potential format changes. Working on a schedule today, hoping to spice things up a little out there but I need to make sure there is no overlap in the fields. Hang tough, and thanks for interest! -Tony
