Aloha e Tisch Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Master of Arts Program ,

I am writing to you on behalf of Hālāwai as part of Community Outreach for our upcoming Inaugural Film Festival happening from October 28-30. We are co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. Your mission to help cultural heritage institutions preserve moving image materials is commendable and reflects the purpose of our Film Festival. It would be great if you can share this information with your community.

Attached below is the slate of films that will be shown throughout the festival. Opening day at NYPL will open with Ka Huaka’i, two shorter films, a Lahaina recovery talk story, and finish with the theatrical debut of Waikiki the Film. Also, a part of opening day will take place at Films at Lincoln Center that will be devoted to Student Films and will include an acting master class led by Whale Rider’s Cliff Curtis and The Wind and the Reckoning’s Lindsay Watson.

Sunday will show a variety of films in two theaters at the Angelika Village East. The film festival will close with The Wind and the Reckoning and a ticketed closing party at LaMama Experimental Theater Club’s new space, featuring a performance by slack key guitarist and Grammy-nominated Makana.

Tickets may be purchased on Eventbrite. There is a 15% discount through October 14th using the code: Halawai_HFF_2023, a 20% student discount: Student_HFF_2023, and 20% kupuna/senior discount: Senior_HFF_2023. Please note, we are not allowed to sell any tickets at the door.

Please contact me if you have any questions. You can also check the website for more information, http://www.halawai.org/hff.html and our Instagram.

Mahalo nui for your support,
MJ
