To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of the first part of Jaroslav Hasek's satiric novel The Good Soldier Svejk in 1921, readers across the globe – actors, translators, scholars, students, and other friends of Czech culture – will take turns reading. Vaclav Paris, Professor of Comparative Literature at City College, will provide a brief introduction. Christopher Harwood, Lecturer in Czech at Columbia University, will moderate the event.

The online reading will continue until the end of Part One, whenever that may be. Reading locations will include New York. Prague, London, Rome, Istanbul, Uppsala, Salalah in Oman, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and others.

streamed stage reading, Q&A
Based on Diego Rivera’s mural at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the play centers on the fulfillment and downfall of the American Dream.
