We don't usually think of Jaroslav Hašek as a food writer, and yet he and his most famous creation, the Good Soldier Švejk, are profoundly entrenched in Czech food and beer culture. Today, the largest restaurant franchise in the Czech Republic the Švejk Restaurant. This is thanks to Hašek's vivid descriptions of food that bring his fiction to life, and his own appetite, no less than gargantuan!
At this pop-up event, we'll enjoy classic Czech drinks and food while celebrating Hašek's contribution to Czech gastronomy. Food writer and "Haškolog" Abigail Weil, Harvard graduate and PhD candidate, will deliver a brief lecture, to be followed by a group discussion.
