About Tomáš:
Tomáš Kačo is a talented pianist, composer, and singer.
He hails from the small city of Nový Jičín in the Czech Republic. His father first exposed him to music at the age of five, hoping that he would become a musician one day. Gypsy music, which is part of his roots and culture, greatly influenced him. He taught himself to play the piano by mimicking complex melodies and developed the skills to hear harmonic progressions from an early age. As he began performing on a more advanced level, he developed a passion for classical music and felt inspired and motivated to properly learn the technique.
He studied at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, Czech Republic, under renowned Professor Pavel Motloch, who was a great mentor and influence to him. Tomáš continued his studies and received a master’s degree in classical piano from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (2008-2015), studying primarily with Professor Ivo Kahánek. On scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts (2015-2017), he earned a diploma in contemporary writing and music. Furthermore, he received the Piano Department Achievement Award for outstanding musicianship.
As a solo pianist, his unique style is an interesting fusion of classical, jazz and gypsy music. His piano recitals are based on improvisation. The main idea of these improvisations is a “renaissance” of gypsy music, often improvising on traditional gypsy themes. He has collaborated for many years with renowned teacher and singer Ida Kelarová. They released a CD together called Roma Ballad. Additionally, he has made arrangements of songs for the Pardubice Philharmonic, the Philharmonic of Hradec Králové, and the Janáček Philharmonic in Ostrava. His objective in life is to compose, produce and arrange music of all styles. He says, “I hope one day my music will help make peace in the world and erase color lines.” He has performed for former Czech President Václav Havel and former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. As a pianist, he has performed in the United States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia, and Israel.
