Hello,
I wanted to share an exciting opportunity for your Middle and High School students: the NORTech Robotics Competition!
The event will be held at BGSU on Tuesday, March 5th. It's a great chance for your students to apply engineering principles, advanced programming, and teamwork in a competitive setting, using educational kits like LEGO Mindstorms or VEX IQ.
We understand that some teams may be behind schedule this year and might not be ready to enter. Please know that all teachers and students are welcome to attend and observe the competition to get a feel for the events and plan for next year.
However, if you have students who are already working on similar projects or are close to having a functional robot, we strongly encourage you to participate this year to gain valuable experience.
The competition offers several events that challenge students' skills in design, coding, and strategic problem-solving:
Additive Manufacturing Challenge: This is a key event where students connect their existing 3D printing knowledge to the professional world of Additive Manufacturing. Students will 3D model, print, and test a structure, applying advanced engineering techniques to focus on form, fit, and function. This is an excellent way to prepare for careers in modern industrial and design fields.
Robotics Triathlon, Line Dancing, Shuttle Run, and Line Following: While these events are foundational, they provide an excellent platform for older students to showcase advanced programming efficiency, sensor integration, and precise robot tuning. These challenges require sophisticated code and robust engineering design.
Combat Bot, Mini-Sumo Robot, and Box Bot: These events require strategic thinking, robust mechanical design, and tactical programming, making them highly engaging for secondary students.
This competition is a great opportunity to encourage creativity, teamwork, and sportsmanship in STEM and directly connect classroom learning to real-world engineering challenges.
For full rules, specifications, and grade-level details for all events, please direct interested teachers to the official page: NORTech Robotics Competition Rules.
Let me know if you have any questions!
