Welcome Back STEAM Teachers and BEST deadline approaching.

Welcome back to all of you—especially Defiance County, which begins classes this week.

This message comes from Kari Wilson at BGSU, who helps coordinate several robotics competitions held throughout the year. I’ll be putting together a summary of all the competitions I can find so you’ll have a planning guide as you continue building your STEAM programs.

A few highlights:

• Some competitions start early in the year, such as BEST.

• VEX Robotics events typically run in November/December.

• The NRC hosts NORTech in February at BGSU and Nationals in April in Marion, OH.

Each competition varies—some are device-specific, while others involve building from scratch, depending on the year’s challenge. Many organizers are working to add more beginner-friendly challenges, so new programs can participate and gain experience.

For example, last year Pettisville entered the NRC for the first time and competed in the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) challenge.

If you’d like ideas—or would like someone from Northern Buckeye to visit and work with you on curriculum and planning—please let me know.

If your school is on the fence or if you do not start until after Labor Day please reach out so we can connect and see what might be the best option.

Quick Highlights

• VEX V5 will be the provided controller for team kits (more information coming including vex training links, debugging tips and more)
• BEST is thrilled to expand our program to welcome teams from community organizations
• including Boys & Girls Clubs, Scouts, YMCA, JCC, and other community groups--ensuring even more students have access to this transformative experience.

Key Dates for the 2025 Season

• Registration Deadline: Aug 31, 2025
• Schools who start after Labor Day please let me know if you are interested in registering for this season. We can work with you to get registered.  
• Kickoff: September 20, 2025
• Practice Day: TBD (Likely 10/25 or 11/1)
• Game Day: November 15, 2025
