BEST Robotics (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) is a nationwide program that promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education through robotics competitions for middle and high school students. Founded in 1993, it provides students with hands-on experience in designing, building, and programming robots to complete specific challenges.

Key Features of BEST Robotics:

  • Free to Participate: Unlike many other robotics competitions, BEST Robotics is free for schools, making it more accessible.
  • Limited Resources: Teams receive a standardized kit of materials to build their robots, emphasizing creativity and engineering skills.
  • Real-World Applications: Challenges are inspired by real-world problems, encouraging problem-solving and teamwork.
  • Marketing & Outreach Components: In addition to technical aspects, teams develop marketing strategies, presentations, and engineering notebooks, simulating real-world business and engineering practices.

Competition Structure:

  1. Kickoff: Teams receive the competition theme, kit, and rules.
  2. Eight-Week Design & Build Phase: Students work on designing, building, and programming their robots.
  3. Local Competition: Teams compete in local BEST hubs.
  4. Regional Championships: Top teams advance to higher-level competitions.
