Hi all,
Windows App Essentials 25.09.3 is now available from the NV Access add-on store. If you are using Windows 10, this is the FINAL add-on release for you (because upcoming 25.10 is meant for Windows 11). For people wishing to archive this release, you can download this release from:
https://github.com/josephsl/wintenApps/releases/download/25.09/wintenApps-25.09.3.nvda-addon
Just like other 25.09.x releases, you will get add-on end of life message when installing this version. However, with the add-on discontinued in the source code repository (as of today) with actual add-on end of life in October, the message will now say:
Thank you for using Windows App Essentials NVDA add-on. This add-on is discontinued. Please uninstall the add-on.""",
My recommendation: if you haven’t done so, please upgrade to NVDA 2025.3 and uninstall Windows App Essentials add-on.
Also, 25.09.3 is the last release to support NVDA 2025.2 – upcoming 25.10 version (the actual last release) will require NVDA 2025.3. Other than NVDA 2025.3 and Windows 11 requirements, 25.09.3 and 25.10 will be identical, with the latter release scheduled for October 14, 2025. Finally, people browsing the NV Access add-on store will notice that Windows App Essentials is marked as discontinued (in English).
A note for folks looking at Windows App Essentials add-on source code (GitHub repository): the readme will state that the add-on is end of life, and it is indeed end of life as far as the code repository is concerned (effective September 22, 2025). The add-on will officially become end of life on October 14, 2025 – all that needs to be done is make that official in add-on documentation and tag 25.10 release then.
Finally, as of September 22, 2025 (time of this post), according to NV Access, in the last 30 days, about 40.6% of NVDA users are using Windows 11 24H2, 35.3% are on Windows 10 22H2, and 10% are on Windows 11 23H2, the rest scattered across other Windows releases. Compare this to August 22, 2025 snapshot (between July 24, 2025 and August 22, 2025) where Windows 11 24H2, Windows 10 22H2, and Windows 11 23H2 are installed on 39%, 36.8%, and 10.7%, respectively. This info only represents NVDA installations reporting diagnostic data as part of update check process – things might be different considering that not all users and organizations enable automatic NVDA update checks.
Thank you for using Windows App Essentials add-on.
Cheers,
Joseph
