Hi,

I just tested this on the YouTube website using the Chrome browser and the latest version of NVDA. When I start playing a video and switch to focus mode, I am able to tab to the seek slider, which can be controlled using the up/down or left/right arrow keys to seek backward or forward.

If I continue tabbing while in focus mode, right after the volume slider, I can hear the current playback time relative to the total video duration.

I am not very clear as to when you say that NVDA is not reading out the video duration; could you please clarify in more detail what specific steps you are taking or what you are experiencing so I can better understand the issue?

Warm regards,

Mister Kayne

It is much faster to use screen-reader find and search for the word mute from the top of the page.  Tab once, at least in Firefox, and you are on the information.  You don't have to be in focus mode.

The search command is one of the most powerful and most poorly taught features when using the Internet.  If you are looking for something you want to find repeatedly on the same site, look for something you can use search to move to that is on pages generally and is either the thing you are looking for or close to it.

Hi
This is an error in the way Youtube have marked-up their headings with ARIA sadly. You're best addressing a complaint to them - the more of us that do so, the higher the chance of them fixing it!
Thanks

Sean

This is an example of not relying on the kindness of strangers. The
more you use things like the find command or figure out other efficient
ways to do things that don'[t require a sight designer to do something,
whether the designer should or not, the better off you will be if you
need to use such techniques.

I just checked my procedure with Chrome and it works in just the same way.  Search for mute and tab once.

Hi Farhad,

Try pressing Alt+Tab to switch away from YouTube, and then pressing
Alt+Shift+Tab to switch back. The elapsed time should be updated.
You could also try toggling on Focus Mode and pressing J to jump back
10 seconds.

A terrible kludge, but it works for me.

HTH! :)

The elapsed time is constantly updated if you do what I said to get to
where it is displayed and it will be updated even if you stay in browse
mode.

And if it weren't, if you switched to focus mode, it would be. You
don't have to leave the page.

A correction:
I thought I remembered the time changing while staying on the display,
but it doesn't, either in browse or focus mode. But in either mode,
tabing oncde to leave the display and shift tabbing to return shows the
time at the time you move back to it so the cumbersome alt tab isn't
necessary.

actually friends i mean:
when we search any video for example:
i searched for: ms word with jaws / NVDA
when i pressed enter, the results page shows:
with every video, NVDA announced the video duration with video title.
this is working with jaws, but not working with NVDA.
hope you got my point.

A few weeks ago the video titles were announced only, and their durations were visible to object navigation but not announced as part of the heading.

Clearly something changed since then, but I suppose this will keep happening as the website gets modified and we need to keep abreast of the changes and point out regressions when they appear.

Using NVDA with MS Edge, NVDA is reading the duration of each video on the Youtube search results page. On other Youtube pages, NVDA does not read the video duration in the latest Youtube. However, if you use Tab and Shift + Tab to move between focussed items, NVDA reads the duration for each video.
