Hello.
The following text is quoted.
Hi everyone,
Like many of you, I’ve always wanted to use Google's natural-sounding TTS voices directly within NVDA. While there have been a few workarounds in the past, I couldn’t find a completely standalone, user-friendly solution that was fit for daily use.
Recently, I managed to figure out how to extract Google’s WASM speech synthesis engine and built a basic add-on around it. Later, Dao Duc Trung joined the project and helped rewrite the core logic while optimizing the audio processing to make the voices run smoothly. We are now actively developing it together.
We use this add-on ourselves every day and are excited to share its first public release with you today. The project is still in its early stages, but we’d love for you to try it out and share your feedback.
How to try it:
1.
Download the .nvda-addon file from the GitHub Releases page.
2.
Open the downloaded file to install it, then restart NVDA.
3.
Open NVDA’s synthesizer selection dialog and choose "Google TTS For NVDA".
4.
If this is your first time using the add-on, the Voice Manager will open automatically, allowing you to download the voice packs you need.
Known Issue:
Since this is our initial release, there is a noticeable delay during the very first initialization and the first piece of speech playback. We are currently working on fixing this for future updates, so we truly appreciate your patience during the initial setup!
If you encounter any bugs, have suggestions, or want to contribute to the project, please open an issue or submit a pull request on our GitHub repository. You can also contact us directly.

Hello all!

Please, do not answer this message!

The use of Google TTS in NVDA is not legal!

Actually, it is legal, because there's no illegal activity such as cracking/modifying existing paid software, this is all through the WebAssembly TTS framework, so before making claims like this is not legal, please do your research.

I agree, we need more proof than baseless claims from an overzealous moderator.

Well, it’s going to depend on the license terms for Google TTS. While Google lists a lot of free (as in beer) software, I don’t think their TTS is so released.

I see this please do your research line increasingly used and I really
object to it. It is a form of snooty superior putdown. And it may turn
around and bite those who use it. Do you research every statement you
make even if you are sure something is correct? Are you ever confident
or sure of something so you don't check it, then later find you are
wrong? Using the do your research standard you are stating means
everything should be tested by anyone who makes any statement because
there are times when everyone is wrong about something and doesn't
realize they may be wrong about the matter in question. One of the
purposes of lists like this is that mistakes may be corrected. So if
you have information and aren't just making a statement that sounds
incorrect to me, where is your support for it?

I don't have technical knowledge in this area but when asked, Gemini
replied in part:
The person on your email list is conflating two completely different
concepts: technological delivery (how a file runs in a browser) and
intellectual property law (who owns the code and the recorded voice data).

While I realize that AI answers aren't reliable, the answer sounds
correct and I strongly suspect it is. So please do your own research
and enlighten us.

Hi, first of all, thanks for the innovation. As an ordinary user, I tested it and it works well. I appreciate the work you and your team have done!

Let's ignore the distractions from others.

Either way, Rui clearly has not done the research and is making baseless claims, which as a moderator is not a good look.

If you want to use it, no problem from my side!

But, please, do not discuss it in the list...

It's not hurting anyone, and google has never charged for use of their tts in google chrome or on android. I have been using it all day, and the police haven't shown up at my door yet. Should I call my local state police and report myself for using illegal software?

As I have already said, I do not have any problem in users using the add-on.

Just do not discuss it in the group. It is so hard to understand?

yes. it's hard to understand.

because you are not neutral on the subject since you make a paying tts add'on.

You won't give us a proof that this Google TTS is not oegal. ok.

that's fine , you only defend your small business.

Hi,

Rui is not defending his small business. Have you read any of the google's licence agreements?

I chip in my 100 dollars that you never did it.

This answer is unacceptable. You are making a public and personal injury to a person without proving it, based on a supposed inability to be neutral, but people wanting to use the add-on may not be neutral, of course.
So, please stop this behavior.
I'll lock this conversation now. If you want a link to the license of Google TTS, please provide it if you can, starting a different thread, since this is not constructive at all.
Or request to reopen the following issue

Kind regards,
