Hi all,

Enhanced Touch Gestures 26.04 is now available. This add-on update was written by Joseph (me ) and Kefas (see below).

Changelog:

  • Internal changes to make the add-on more compatible with future NVDA releases.

So what is this internal change? I am delighted to announce that, starting with NVDA 2026.2, touch-based browse mode navigation, a key feature of Enhanced Touch Gestures, is coming to an NVDA installation near you WITHOUT needing to use the add-on! Originally developed by Joseph, the feature was ported to NVDA screen reader by Kefas Lungu, one of the maintainers of Enhanced touch Gestures. This involved changes to how browse touch mode was added and removed as you move into and out of browse mode, necessitating a change to add-on code to support old (NVDA 2026.1 beta 9 and earlier) and new (2026.2 alpha) ways of doing things. For now the behavior remains the same as in old add-on releases – the add-on will not enter or exit browse touch mode when switching to and from a browse mode document, but a release planned for May will change it to align with NVDA 2026.2 alpha (automatic switching to and from browse touch mode).

There are other exciting features being developed and tested by alpha testers, including repeating last spoken message, alpha-level implementation of a magnification feature, and fixing a long-standing bug where File Explorer version reporting was inaccurate. More on these and other changes later. For now, enjoy Enhanced Touch Gestures 26.04.

Cheers,

Joseph
