Good afternoon to all again.
 
Using NVDA and the say all function, According to the nvda information, the keyboard commands are nvda down arrow.
 
So my question is this. Is it referring to the down arrow key on the numpad, or the down arrow key to the immediate left of the nvda key? Thanks.

It's down arrow on the main keyboard.  In NVDA, the numpad keys are reserved for NVDA functions such as object navigation and screen review. 


I'm talking about the desk top keyboard layout, which you are asking about,  I don't recall the laptop command.


If you want to use NVDA numpad down arrow, there is an attachment, called Numpad Nav Mode which allows you to do so.

Gene has the answer, but just to pick up on the last question - if you have NVDA in laptop keyboard layout, the "say all" keystroke is NVDA+a.

With nvda, the down arrow is the down arrow on the cursor keys;  directly below the six pack on a desktop keyboard.

There are, indeed, two down arrows on a full keyboard: the Numpad down arrow and the down arrow that is usually in the inverted T formation just to the right of the right Alt, Windows, and control keys (those located to the right of the space bar). I'll call that the "Inverted T Down Arrow."


The "Say All" command is referring to the Inverted T Down Arrow.

Here is an easy way to get answers from NVDA itself.

Press (at the same time) the NVDA Key and the number 1 on the row of numbers at the top of the keyboard. This is a toggle key, turning "Input Help Mode" on and off.

When Input Help Mode is on, any key you press will say its name instead of performing a computer function.

For instance, when Input Mode Help mode is on, depressing the NVDA Key + the the Inverted T Down Arrow produces something like "reads from the system caret to the end of the text"; this is "Say All." The depression of the NVDA Key + the Numpad Down Arrow produces something like, "Moves the navigator object to the first object inside it." 

Explaining the Navigator Object is beyond the scope of this email response. Be sure to turn off Input Help Mode when you have finished exploring the keyboard.

Thanks. That is just what I needed. Now, when it states the end of the text, does that mean the end of the document, or the end of a paragraph? Thanks again.

Usually, that means the end of the document. Occasionally, reading will stop early, and I cannot say why. Just press the NVDA + Inverted T Down Arrow again.  This happens infrequently.

I should add that if you set the caps lock to be an NVDA key, you can then use caps lock+down arrow on the main keyboard, which I find much more convenient than numpad insert down arrow.  that is an alternative to the two other methods I discussed earlier.

On a keyboard, I call the group of up, down, left and right arrows, the cursor keys. Yes, they hae the shape of inverted t,   bbut the usual name is cursor keys.

They are frequently referred to as “inverted T” to distinguish them from cursor keys which have a different layout, such as when using the numeric keypad. The term is also obviously used when someone is relatively new to a standard keyboard.
