NVDA plays a small sound in edge or chrome when I start typing in the address bar

What is causing this and how do I turn it off?

You are probably referring to the annoying, one more sound clutter in
recent versions of NVDA found in object presentation. Tab around the
items and you will find one that says something like play a sound when
suggestions appear.  It's a check box. Uncheck it with the space bar,
then activate OK.
