Hi, all,
I hope all is well!
I started using the textbox function within Excel, but I can't seem to be able to read/ edit through any of them.
JAWS has a corresponding shortcut (CTRL + Shift + O), which does not work with NVDA.
Any idea on how we can navigate textboxes?

Hi,
I think there might be some confusion here. Excel doesn't actually have text boxes in the classical sense, but rather cells that can be edited.

To edit a cell, you'll need to activate it first by pressing F2. This should allow you to navigate and edit the cell contents using NVDA.

If you're referring to a different type of object, could you provide more context or clarify what you mean by "textbox function" in Excel? That way, I can try to provide more specific guidance.

Thanks for your patience!

Sincerely,

I'd also ask Mujtaba's question - I'm not sure what kind of text boxes you are referring to either.

Looking around, I found this page: https://pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/accessibility/chapter/chapter-2-11-avoid-floating-objects-on-the-drawing-layer/ Which mentions using control+shift+o to list floating objects, in Word.  Assuming it does the same thing in Excel, perhaps are you creating a chart or similar?

For charts, you can navigate these, either from the sheet or using the elements list - NVDA+f7.

You can also get to notes if that's the kind of text box you're using?  Press NVDA+alt+c to read the notes for the current cell.  You can also use the Review ribbon to get to the next or previous notes.

If you can advise exactly what you are doing, I'm sure we can help more.

Two other references you might be interested in as well - the Switching from Jaws to NVDA guide, which covers "I can do XYZ with Jaws, how do I do it with NVDA?" type questions: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/SwitchingFromJawsToNVDA

And the Microsoft Excel with NVDA training material which is available from our shop and covers the majority of Excel with NVDA and the keyboard: https://www.nvaccess.org/shop/

Kind regards

Quentin
