Running latest versioons of both Win 11 and NVDA.

If I want to copy several files or folders I make sure I am on the first
one then hold down the shift key and down arrow to select the next ones
I want to select.  Right now NVDA does not say the word selected as I
add to the list this way.  NVDA also does not announce Copied to
clipboard when I hit control c.  Is there a Nvda addon that will make
these announcements?

Thanks

There are add-ons that announce things like copy and ;paste. One of
them is ClipSpeak. I don't know if any add-ons announce selected when
moving through a list with shift. I think you can generally assume that
when you move this way, the item is selected. But let's say you want to
check. Count the items you move down. Let's say the first item is
checked because you either moved to it or pressed the space bar on it.
then, as you hold shift and move down, count two for the first move,
three for the next move, etc. One is already checked so the first down
arrow is two, The third down arrow is three, etc. If you want to check,
once you have moved down as many times as you want, read the status
line. You will hear how many items are checked and if they match your
count. While having audio cues and information is fine, it really helps
you understand what you are doing if you know what the actions you are
taking do.

To add to Jean's reply, you can use the CTRl key in place of shift, and the spacebar to toggle your selections.
This has the added benefit of giving you precise control over what's selected, and allows you to select noncontiguous items as well. :)
Hope that's helpful!

Thanks

Hi, Don!
On second tab of File Explorer options window you can check "Use checkboxes to select items" option to have more reliable control on selection. I'm on Win10 right now, but AFAIK you can do this in Win11 too.

But this is something that the screen reader should do by default, and why many people find NVDA more difficult.
Narrator does this, as does JAWS.
All the best

As does NVDA, as I just selected and copied the above using NVDA and it said selected after each line I selected using shift+down arrow.
I'm using the Windows 1 Core voice, David.
I've done nothing with addons or settings.

Hi Richard
NVDA doesn't announce selected in the windows 11 file explorer if you use shift+down to extend a selection. It does if you're selecting text rather than files or folders, though.

The original question wasn't about documents. Yes, it says selected if
you select text that way in a document. It doesn't say selected when in
a list such as a files and folders list and neither does JAWS. Narrator
does.
