AudioScreen add-on notice: version 2026.3 to require NVDA 2026.1, endin add-on maintenance

Hi all,

The following is for AudioScreen add-on users:

Intro: AudioScreen ad-on allows you to hear image descriptions with sound. Once you put the mouse or a finger over an image, AudioScreen will play sounds to indicate image color and other properties.

Notice: AudioScreen 2026.3 (scheduled for August 2026 at the earliest) will require NVDA 2026.1 (64-bit) or later. If you are using NVDA 2025.3.3 (32-bit), AudioScreen 2026.2.x will be the last releases for you. I strongly recommend upgrading to NVDA 2026.1.1 unless circumstances warrant staying on NVDA 2025.3.3.

Also, a heads up: I am about to end maintenance of AudioScreen add-on to reduce my NVDA community workload. I picked up AudioScreen in 2025 to make it compatible with NVDA 2026.x. Now that work is closing soon, I would like to pass on the add-on maintenance to the next group of maintainers. If you are interested in AudioScreen add-on maintenance, please contact NVDA add-ons forum. If I don't hear from anyone by August 31, 2026, then I will declare AudioScreen add-on abandoned by end of 2026.

Hi all,

AudioScreen 2026.3 is now available (ahead of schedule). As noted preivously, 2026.3 requires NVDA 2026.1 or later. A companion release, 2026.2.2, is also available for NVDA 2025.3.3 users.

Joseph, thank you very much for your work on Audio Screen.  I really hope it can be maintained into the future.  I originally started using it to help with SVG writing.  I am currently using it to help with my learning of CSS flexboxes by putting different coloured borders around the various divs.  But potential tasks in which it can help are many.

Joseph, a question re Audio Screen gestures.  This simpleton does not understand actions such as hover down and hover up.  Are they different from flicking down or up?

Hover down = placing the finger on the touchscreen continuously, hover up = removing the finger from the touchscreen.

Thank you Joseph, both for the info about hovering and for Audio Screen generally.  Today I have independently made much progress with my understanding of flexboxes and that would not have been possible without Audio Screen.
