New Member Introduction

Hello everyone,

My name is Heather and I'm new to this list. I'll eventually be getting a BrailleNote Evolve which will ship with a custom version of NVDA so I thought I'd get a feel for how it works by reading the Evolve's User Guide, plus this list, as well as the NVDA stanual, eventually, so I'll have a good handle on things when I do get my Evolve in a while.
So I'll be reading more than posting at the moment, but I thought I'd introduce myself.

While I am not a Braille user myself, I am very familiar with NVDA. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any support or have questions as you get started with the software. It sounds like you have a solid plan in place by diving into the documentation ahead of time.
I am just curious, which part of the planet are you from?

Thanks for the welcoming words.
I'm already learning just from reading this list; I now know I have to make sure to set NVDA to speak at the logon screen so I can follow the progress of Windows updates. And that I should check the status of this setting after each update of NVDA.
And I will definiffely reach out when-if I have questions. Thanks again.

Hi all,

I think a more detailed introduction is needed to get people up to speed on what's going on:

A while ago I noted on NVDA community forum(s) that HumanWare was developing a version of BrailleNote with Windows 11 installed. The product, BrailleNote Evolve, is now available. It ships with a customized version of NVDA with HumanWare specific add-ons installed to improve braille and Microsoft 365 support. Based on social media posts and analysis done by current BrailleNote Evolve users, the version of NVDA on the BNE is largely based on NVDA 2026.1. However, due to presence of HumanWare add-ons and modifications made by the manufacturer, the experience might not be the same as in vanilla NVDA.

There exists a dedicated Groups.IO forum for HumanWare BrailleNote users, with a subgroup dedicated to BrailleNote Evolve activated a few days ago. I have also advised current and would-be BrailleNote Evolve users to subscribe to NVDA community forums (including this one) to learn more about NVDA and modern Windows in general (Heather is one of these users).
