Hi everyone
I'd like to extend a special thank you to our
current moderators, Noelia and Rui, for their fantastic work in getting this new user group established.
To ensure the long-term health
and sustainability of our community, we are looking to expand our
moderation team. This group is, and will remain, user-run and moderated.
Having a larger team of moderators will help share the responsibility,
prevent our volunteers from feeling overwhelmed and reinforce the
community-led spirit of the group.
So what does a moderator do?
A
key responsibility of a moderator is ensuring that the behaviour of
participants aligns with the NVDA Code of Conduct. If you've ever been
to an international conference you'll understand exactly what kind of
environment a moderator is tasked with nurturing: a dignified
environment of respectful communication, where it is assumed that people
are
not operating in their native language and come from a variety of
different cultures. One where everyone is comfortable sharing
constructive feedback, even if critical, without fear of personal
attacks or some other form of reprisal.
A moderator’s key duties include:
- Assessing posts that have been flagged by members and taking appropriate action.
- Helping
to keep discussions on-topic where necessary. This can include
encouraging people to raise new threads (if necessary), and very
occasionally closing down threads that have run their course and
devolved into unfocussed chatter.
- Fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all members, new and old.
- Communicating with the other moderators to ensure a consistent and fair approach.
You don't need to be a technical expert to be a great moderator. We are looking for community members who are:
- Patient, fair and level-headed.
- Familiar with the NVDA community.
- Committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
- Able to dedicate a small amount of time regularly to help keep an eye on the group.
If you are interested in volunteering as a moderator, please send a brief email to the group owners and moderators at
nvda-users+managers@nvaccess.org.
In your email, please briefly tell us a little bit about why you're
interested in the role.
Thank you for your
participation in this group. Your participation is what makes this group
such a valuable resource for NVDA users worldwide!
Regards
Gerald
