Unable to Use Addon after Clean Instal and Restoring Backup

I am using windows 10 22h2, nvda 2025.1.2. I had to clean install nvda. I uninstalled nvda and deleted all files from system drive.
I had a portable copy of nvda 2024.4. So, installed with configuration from this portable copy.
Then, I updated nvda, addons and enabled incompatible addons. Since then I cannot use any addon.
If I start nvda with addons, I do not listen to speech. I use espeak for speech synthesiser. However, if I restart nvda with addon disabled, then I listen to the speech of nvda.
I did not have this behaviour before the clean install. I had the same addons before the clean installation and I did not face this behaviour. Anyway, I have tried disabling some addons such as nvda global plugin and speech history but my problem has not been solved yet. Now, how can I fix it?
I want to reiterate that I had the same addons before clean installation and I did not have any problem. It started after clean installation and restoring backup from portable copy of nvda.

Hello:
I don't know if this will help, but have you tried to uninstall all add-ons and the search for compatible add-ons, installing them again? After, if you need an add-on not declared as compatible, you can select the checkbox to search incompatible add-ons and can install just the incompatible add-ons needed.
Also, you may try to run the COM registration fixing tool, available in NVDA's menu, Tools submenu.

Hi,

I think reinstalling add-ons may not help completely as some NVDA settings are not honored even with add-ons forcefully enabled. Therefore, I recommend doing a factory reset, then enabling add-ons and reconfiguring settings.

Hi,

Press Control+NVDA+R three times (restart NVDA right after to make sure default settings are saved).

I've had that happen once. I had to do a clean install and reinstall all of my add ons from scratch. This was about 2-3 years ago. somethign corrupted during the transition.

Try a truely clean install in this case.

Thank you. Ok, I will clean install again.
However, is there any way to run the install and portable copy side by side so that I can check what settings I used to use?
What is the best way of backing and restoring user configuration? Why didn't it work? Why did it corrupt my user configuration?

You are assuming the the saved configuration caused the problem.  You don't know.  You will probably never know what caused the problem unless, perhaps a log might show what happened and I don't think a copy of a log that old still exists.


Saving the configuration as you did generally works well and I doubt there is a better way.  For all you know, even if there is another way, you might have had exactly the same problem. 


In short, just because one thing follows another doesn't mean the first thing caused the second.  We don't know what caused the problem.
